RTA Mobility Management Educational Video Series
Target Audience: Transit riders, older adults, people with disabilities, schools, social service agencies and caregivers to educate them about the many accessibility features, programs and services that the region has to offer.
Strategy Objective:The RTA Mobility Management Video Series provides an overview of ADA accessible public transit options available throughout the RTA region, as well as an overview of RTA's programs for older adults and people with disabilities. The RTA's Mobility Management Program helps riders with disabilities and older adults access ADA-accessible transit in the RTA region. The video allows us to educate large and small groups in many different settings.
Situation Challenge: The RTA believes in promoting travel independence, and empowering customers with mobility options. The RTA Mobility Management staff offers free educational services for older adults and people with disabilities throughout the RTA region through group transit orientation presentations; transit information, along with one-on-one Travel Training for individuals in their communities. Our staff is small and is often unable to accommodate training requests. In the digital age, a great way to communicate our services is through video.
Results Impact: The video series allows our partners to share the video in the absence of scheduling a class with a mobility outreach coordinator. We have received feedback from social service agencies that students feel comfortable watching the videos on their own and are more comfortable riding transit. We have featured the videos on our social media pages, website, and blog. The videos have increased our social engagement with riders and has built our brand awareness as a reliable educational resource.
Why Submit: This entry successfully tackled the information gap for customers in the Chicago region. The upbeat creative manner in which the videos subtly promote transit as an easy way to travel. The video also positioned the RTA a primer educator of rider services to older adults, people with disabilities and all riders.
